Pulling a rabbit out of the hat

.

Well, one rabbit, anyway!  We pulled out our trusty hat to choose our next five reads, and the winners are:

All of a Kind Family, by Sydney Taylor

Watsons go to Birmingham 1963, by Christopher Paul Curtis

Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, by Kate De Camillo (the one with the rabbit)

Holes, by  Louis Sachar

Katie has read Holes, and is quite happy to read it again.   We have read The Tale of Despereaux by De Camillo, but other than that these books and authors are quite new to us.  Should be fun!

  1. Oh- I’ve read all except the DiCamillo book- which I didn’t think I’d enjoy so I skipped it. I know your daughter is older, but maybe reading the first couple of chapters aloud for Swallows and Amazons might be best- I always say it drags a bit, until they get to the island. There is a lot of strange sailing terminology and some Britspeak which can be offputting ofr young American readers- but if they get hooked on the story, it becomes “smooth sailing”. 😉
