Hobbit/Epicness

(Yes, we’ve been gone a long time – we haven’t given up on this project – just figuring some things out – in the meantime, Katie wanted to share thoughts on “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”)

As you may know I’m a Lord of the Rings geek. You know that your really a geek when:

1. Your own MOTHER calls you a geek to your face. Ahem…Mom!

2.All your Christmas presents have to do with LOR. (Except for adorable little stuffed animals in a circular shapes)

3.You start building a fantasy world in your head and you make yourself a character in the story.(I’m Aragorn’s younger sister who loves archery)

4.You find yourself making puns about the movies and books that nobody else gets, and while you are doubled over laughing your friends talk about your sanity.

5.You start anticipating the next Hobbit movie, that comes out in a year and a half.

6. You study maps of Middle Earth more then you study maps of America.

7. You can relate every situation to a scene in LOR.

If any of this apply to you than you are on your way to becoming a Lord of the Rings Super Fan. If all of these apply to you than you are like me! A LOR Mega Geek…welcome to the club!  If none of these apply to you, but you like LOR than you are just a normal fan. That isn’t bad, but I think that a movie with such good acting, props, costumes, sets, animation, and music deserves a lot of credit.  I personally think that Peter Jackson is a genius and should be recognized as possible one of the best directors ever.

Don’t let me get started about Viggo Mortenson.  My friends will agree with me when I say that I am obsessed him.  In my opinion he is the GREATEST actor ever to live(followed by Alan Rickman and Johnny Depp).  He plays Aragorn, he is a Dunedain(half man half elf), he is hot, he is awesome, he does all of his stunts, he is awesome, and he is in Hidalgo…and he is awesome, did I say that already?

Now on to the Hobbit.  I won’t give anything away, but those out their that haven’t read the book, read it.  I will give you a brief warning…

Warning Content Contains:

  • Beheaded dwarves
  • Orcs
  • Wargs
  • Flaming pine cones
  • Goblins
  • A fat goblin
  • Epicness
  • Gollum/Smeagol
  • Schizophrenia
  • Elijah Woods
  • Hairy feet
  • Elves
  • Trolls
  • An eye

You will get the last one when you see the movie.  I don’t consider this movie better than the LOR trilogy, but it was still very well done.  To all of you Hobbit book fans out there, you might be saying, ‘Bilbo doesn’t fall into the cave!’ or ‘We never see the crazy little wood wizard in the BOOK!’.  However you have to admit that the Hobbit isn’t the most exciting and suspenseful book.  It is a great book, but the movie wouldn’t have been that exciting if they hadn’t added in a little action.

When the next Hobbit movie comes out maybe I will make another post where you read me rambling on and on about its awesomeness and the differences from the book and movie.  Thank you for reading.  Now go watch the movie or read the book, I’m going to see it a third time over this Christmas break.

Smeagol/Gollum all the way!!!!!!

Dramas of an almost Thirteen Year Old

For something a little different – some bonus stuff from Katie!

Hi people of this blog.  I have not written one post besides the ones about the books.  So I decided it was about time you learned something about me that came from me.  So now I present Dramas of an almost Thirteen Year Old.

I know the question what goes on inside an almost thirteen year old girls mind is not on the top of most of your minds, but I am going to tell you anyway.  My main thoughts are about sports, Lord of the Rings (mainly Viggo Mortenson/Aragorn), my trip to the east coast coming up, babysitting, the next pool party I am attending, the next book I am going to read, the fact that I need a new swimsuit, and I am almost a teenager.  Like lots of people around this time I am having my first crush, which really creeps me out.  At my school there has been the mean girls( girl in my case) who blames you for everything and doesn’t like you for no apparent reason. I still try to workout when I can and my family goes on hikes together occasionally.  I have acne that is not too bad and is going away so I am very excited.  I can actually relax and enjoy my summer because I got my S.A.T.  and report card back and I was happy to see that I did better than I expected.  I was also glad to see that I scored a 99, 94, and a 91 in my creative language part of the S.A.T.

Everyone that new since I came to California keeps saying I remember when you where only four and then sighing as though remembering.  I still have my best friend that I had when I was three and I think our friendship has only gotten stronger over the years.  We even have started a babysitting business together for the people with small children in the couple’s group that goes on once a week at my house.  And that is what goes on inside an almost thirteen year old girls mind.  Thank you for reading.
